Return to Moira Furnace

Remember to watch/change the video to high definition

Moira Furnace is one of my favourite locations to investigate and it’s situated right on the banks of the beautiful Ashby-de-la-Zouch Canal. I’d first investigated this location a few years ago and it’s a place that has continued to draw my attention back to it each and every time.

For those of you that don’t know, I featured this location in an article for Haunted Magazine (Issue 23) and below I’ve included a short snippet of my writing to explain the historical background of this extraordinary hidden gem!

Moira was built in 1804 and is one of the most well preserved furnaces in Europe (if not the world!) considering the fact it was only used as such from 1806 until 1811. The foundry remained in use until 1844 but iron was brought in from elsewhere due to remarks being made at the time which suggested a bad design.

Now a museum, Moira has been used for many purposes over the years, including living accommodation for multiple families.

In my previous investigation which took place in January of this year we had a really eventful yet frightful evening of activity….

That was the first time I’d ever witnessed active poltergeist activity!

We’d had a heavy fire door slam on us and it did it on COMMAND of us asking it to happen. I was joined that evening by a fellow paranormal investigator as well as the Operations Supervisor of the Furnace, Tom Phillips.

Tom was also present during the entire investigation so we made the return no different to the last and teamed up with him again. I must admit it’s a pleasure to work alongside Tom.

When I first met him he explained to me he was a ‘sceptical’ person but after our prior investigations I take great pride in saying we had managed to give him a new found insight.

With Tom being at the Furnace on a daily basis, he says he now feels comfortable in the presence of what could be around him and he regularly says good morning to ‘Norman’ the resident poltergeist.

Up until our last investigation we’d never learned ‘Normans’ real name. It was simply just a nickname I had given him because he liked to slam doors and cause a bit of ‘trouble’

Hence it being Norman the doorman 😉

If you’d like to know about previous experiences from myself and other teams, we actually did this VLOG a little differently. Before the investigation I did a walk around with Tom and we discussed what had happened before as well as what has happened since our last visit and it’s all available in the video.

It’s amazing to find that other paranormal teams had also had similar experiences to our own!

Arriving early in evening just as the sun was setting, myself and James Pykett (Haunted Insight) had met Tom outside of the Furnace afte!!!r we’d taken some brief shots of the location for our intro video.

As I’ve mentioned above, I have a really special relationship with this place, something that’s hard for me to explain. All I can say is that I feel drawn to it and I have for a very long time.

We did a quick walk around with Tom (FYI Sorry for chewing gum in the video) Haha Tom actually said it made me look ‘edgy‘ and ‘cool’ something that’s NEVER been used to describe me in my entire life, so hey, I’ll take that!! (lol)

Talking about previous experiences always gets me excited for an investigation and I love to hear what other people have also experienced.

As soon as we’d stepped foot into the building I just knew that it was going to be an active night for us. The tingling of your skin when that first burst of energy hits you and all three of us were very much aware we were not alone.

It wasn’t long before we’d flipped our camera into night mode and we were off to start the investigation!

Photo by James Pykett (Haunted Insight)

We started in the Attic as it’s become like some kind of ‘ritual’ to do so. We’d usually work our way down the building. Covering what we believe to be the most active areas.

We’d spent a good twenty minutes or so beforehand trying to reach out to the spirits in the building but we were getting little results.

I suggested trying the SB7 spirit box. I always think something about the white noise helps to create an atmosphere for communication.

After a few attempts we began to receive some responses, the majority being a male which we now believe was ‘Norman’ — we’d also asked him his real name to which he then responded quite clearly ‘Thomas’ — as we already had a ‘Tom’ with us we asked him to confirm if he meant his own name and he replied ‘It’s my name

Again these responses are very clear and were answering our questions directly. I also tried to get a surname out of him but was told ‘I don’t know you’ therefore nothing was given to us.

During this session the room again felt charged and there is one particular part that always makes me laugh in the video,  you will see the moment the energy hits Tom and he almost slumps down in his seat as he felt a presence around him.

Considering he doesn’t attend many investigations, it was amazing to see him experience something like that.

We also had a faint female voice that came through a few times though we couldn’t quite make it out as well as a few inaudible sentences from a male which we couldn’t understand.

Have a close listen and see if you can understand it? We would love to know your thoughts!!

As the activity seemed to ease we headed into the room next door which is now used as storage space. Again this would have been a bedroom of some sort back when the Furnace was used as a Victorian home.

Again Tom had felt that same energy which was what had drawn us into the room as well as the sounds we’d been hearing.

We used the Alice box and had the name ‘Lisa’ come through as well as a low ‘whistle’ like sound captured on the cameras audio and some movement behind me as I held the camera.

I think James was correct in thinking what we were experiencing in this room could have been some kind of residual energy.

Photo by James Pykett (Haunted Insight)

As we cut the camera from filming for different areas we were leaving the room to begin our investigation of the stairs when we heard an extremely loud bang come from downstairs. It honestly hit us all and we panicked.

In that moment the camera was off but after James told me repeatedly to start filming, I did.

You’ll see from the footage that we are practically running down the stairs to see where the sound had come from. Tom was worried in case the front door hadn’t been locked and someone had got inside but James was convinced that the basement door had just slammed by itself.

Which was something that had happened to me on our previous investigation.

As we reached the bottom of the stairs it was clear it was the basement door that had made the sound and startled us all as it was now shut. Tom checked the front door and it was locked, no one else was in the building apart from the three of us.

During the walk around at the very beginning of the video you will actually see me kick the doorstop into place several times to hold the door (and with some force) but yet again, it slammed shut.

Tom confirmed that the door NEVER closes by itself and the only time it ever has is when I’ve been in the building. He’s convinced that Thomas has a fondness for me which is why it happened again. Although I wouldn’t call it a ‘fondness’ — I was actually really disappointed that we didn’t capture the initial bang on the footage.

I felt like he was playing games. It was approximately ten seconds or less that I had cut recording that the door had then slammed…

It was such an amazing experience for me last time to witness something like that on command and yet again, I was unable to fully capture it.

After a little composure (okay, a lot!) we headed straight to the basement. But again we felt like this had distracted us from the stairs. For those of you that read my article in Haunted Magazine this was exactly what had happened last time.

It felt like whatever spirits were there were desperately trying to keep us away from the stairs.

We we’re not having it!

We did a brief investigation in the basement which ended after a few minutes before we returned to the steps.

We were about halfway up between the floors. We had the Alice Box running but aside from this we just called out. Myself and Tom heard what sounded like whispering coming from downstairs as well as some movement.

Soon the Alice box began to respond to our questions about our theory of why the spirits didn’t like us on the stairs. When asked what happened it responded ‘Poison’ so we continued to ask if this person was poisoned or if they were the ones who did it. It then responded ‘kill’ which gave us the impression we were communicating with a more malevolent entity.

The entire time it felt like we were once again constantly running around trying to chase whatever was in there. One particular area would grasp our attention and then a few moments later we’d hear noises from somewhere else.

After a quick break we headed back to the basement where previously the door had slammed earlier in the evening.

We started out using the SONO X10 spirit box which is an APP device myself and James have had very intelligent communication with in the past AND this night was no different!!!

Some of the responses we got were absolutely amazing and you’ll be able to see them all in the video.

For a while we’d been picking up on a female and when asking a name it clearly said ‘Elizabeth’ so we asked how she died and it responded ‘She was pushed

I seem to think that what we’d previously picked up on the stairs about someone being ‘killed’ and ‘poison’ had a connection to Elizabeth.

Other responses included when asking where ‘Norman’ (Thomas) was it responded ‘he’s outside’ in one voice and another repeated ‘outside

As mentioned, Norman in my opinion is an extremely playful poltergeist who likes games and he definitely enjoys catching you off guard which you’ll see in the video as the door behind James banged from the other side!!

We all jumped out of our skin!!

Not only did the door bang but before this happened it very clearly said on the spirit box ‘let’s play

Creepy right?!!! But totally AMAZING!!!

None of us heard this at the time it was only when I watched the footage back that I registered the cheeky remark.

You’ll clearly see James doesn’t move as the door bangs and not only this, just a few seconds after another loud audible bang is heard on the other side of the room which was picked up loud and clear on the camera’s audio.

You’ll also see us react and I’m pretty sure I almost hyperventilated.

It’s not often I see James on edge, but he was shaken pretty bad after this so I took the camera from him. He was also getting the feeling of being touched and followed in this room.

Finding myself now a rose between two thorns (lol) Literally, I was in the middle of Tom and James. Two big tough men… *cough*

Once again the atmosphere felt charged in the room. I knew we had to push on, there was no way we were stopping now with such amazing responses coming through!!!

We’d asked who’d banged the door and it responded ‘us’ — James then asked if it was Norman who’d done it and it said ‘Of course I did

IT WAS SO CLEAR!!!!! I was really excited about hearing this as you’ll see from the video.

We’d tried to get it to happen again, but a female voice had responded a few times telling us ‘We’ve done it

My name also came through a couple of times. My favourite was when it told me to wait and addressed me personally!

Very unforgettable moment right there.

As you’ll see from the video I am unsure about the first one we captured as it could be considered as ‘dust‘ I just find it weird that we were filming in that room for a long time and this was the only time that something showed up on the camera. It also seems to make it’s way down the basement steps and turn into the room. I didn’t see this at the time, it was just something I picked up when I was going through the footage.

The second Anomaly I actually SAW with my own eyes as a small ball of light. It happened just a few seconds after the first one.

It actually freaked me out a little bit as it floated on the floor towards me and again I didn’t know we had picked it up on the camera.

The second light I’m pretty convinced was some kind of ‘energy’ because I had seen it with my own eyes and it was quite clearly glowing.

BUT HEY feel free to make up your own minds about it.

Moira Furnace and the spirits inside of its walls have proved to us what they can do.

I always feel extremely charged after an investigation here and it makes me want to go back time and time again.

I honestly think we have only just begun to scratch the surfaces and there’s a lot more secrets to be told!

Zak’s Haunted Museum – The Review.

So I’m pretty sure most of you would of heard of Zak Bagans Haunted Museum situated in Downtown Las Vegas by now?

If you’ve not (Then where have you been, seriously?) It’s a paranormal museum that was opened in 2017 by Ghost Adventures Host and Star ‘Zak Bagans’. The Museum is set in a magnificent 1938 mansion which boasts 30 eye catching rooms and each hold extremely mysterious items that Zak has collected over the years.

The museum doesn’t claim that every item on display is Haunted, in fact, that was one of the first things that we were told at the start of the tour.

Being a paranormal investigator myself, this is a place I have wanted to visit since the very first day it opened it’s doors. It took me two years to finally get there, I decided to visit whilst I was on a two week vacation in Vegas for my 30th birthday.

In fact, I actually visited ON my birthday, pretty cool, right?

I’d heard a lot of mixed reviews about this place but I guess it’s pretty much the same with any other location. You’re always going to receive some good reviews and some bad.

I think the main thing that struck me was reading that a lot of people believed the museum to be made up fully for entertainment purposes, and I’m not gonna lie, I was half expecting that myself. Meaning, for everything to be over dramatic, stories of demon’s and ghosts shoved in your face from every angle.

WELL I can happily say that now I have visited, that it’s certainly NOT like that at all.

People who know me know that if I have got something to say then I will downright say it, I don’t hold back and if I thought this museum was total BS then I would call it, no matter who runs it or how big it is.

On this occasion though, you won’t be seeing any of that from me and I can certainly see why it was recently awarded the best attraction in Vegas, this place is NO JOKE.

My Visit

Me outside the museum – 31st August 2019

I arrived pretty early around 12.30pm before the museum was due to open at 1pm. I’d done my research and know this place can get pretty busy! (That and I really didn’t want to be standing out in the sun for a long time because I legit would have died. UK girl can not hack that Vegas heat, Sheesh!)

We didn’t have to wait around for long before the gates were opened and we were asked to stand in line. I actually got to meet Angry Joe which was pretty cool. He came around with the waivers for myself and my group to sign. Yes, that’s right, the rumours are true, you DO have to sign a waiver.

Though after going inside, I can kinda understand why now.

Don’t ask me what was on it as I legit didn’t read it, I was too excited to get in, I probably signed my life away to Zak or something so that he can have possession of my body for one of his display cabinets when I die.

WHO KNOWS? It was worth it though.. I think!

Oh and can I just say that Angry Joe was actually a really nice guy, I must have missed the angry that day! 😉

ANYWAY mooooooooooooving on…..

After all of the waivers had been signed and collected we were split into a small group of around 9-10 people and the tour began!

Now I’m not going to go through every single little thing that happened as I don’t want to ruin the experience for anyone else that may be visiting BUT I will be talking about some of my favourite experiences and highlights of the tour.

So, there may be some spoilers ahead!

The Dybbuk Box Room

The dybbuk box, or dibbuk box, is a wine box which is said to be haunted by a dybbuk. A dybbuk is said to be a restless, usually malicious, spirit believed to be able to haunt and even possess the living.

Now by this time, we’d probably already been on the tour a good half an hour or so and myself and a few others had already started to feel a little ‘indifferent‘ as we’d moved from room to room to check out the different items on display.

My dad who was with me, prior to entering this room actually felt like a hand had slid down his back, he described it as ‘being able to feel the fingers trail down his spine‘ – My dad is normally the quiet type and he’s been on many investigations with myself and it’s extremely rare for him to speak up and say he’s felt something, so pretty much from that moment I knew he was legit.

Not only this but we also had a sceptic with us who’d also felt something tug on his bag on the way around.

This is also someone I know very well and as far as I know he’s never had anything like this happen to him before.

I recall feeling a little ‘out of place‘ at times, sometimes I felt entirely with it and other times it didn’t feel as if I was actually in the room, but instead, watching from a distance.

The dybbuk box was one of the items I was most looking forward to seeing. I really didn’t know what to expect when entering the room as the energy from the entire museum was already completely off the scales. It really does have its very own vibe.

Thankfully in the dybbuk room I had felt absolutely fine, although others had mentioned feeling dizzy when we were inside. I had gotten pretty close to the glass and checked out the box whilst the lovely tour guide began to tell us a little more about it.

It was definitely one of the awesome items of the day and PS, It definitely needs to be opened and if it does get opened, can I come? (Ehh, worth a shot right?!) Haa!

The Devil’s Rocking Chair

The infamous “Devil’s Rocking Chair,” a relic from Ed and Lorraine Warren’s archives.

One of Zak’s newer items if of course the The Devils Rocking Chair which many of you will remember has links to Ed and Lorraine Warren and you can see a snippet of what it was used for in an upcoming Conjuring franchise movie!

I was REALLY excited to see this.

Again, a tour guide had taken our group into a small room and myself and my mom were at the very front. The Chair itself is kept inside a small kind of ‘cupboard‘ which was on the wall in front of us. Before we saw the chair a brief video was played of Ed Warren as he spoke of the chair and during the reveal they played the actual exorcism tape.

Now as the door opened (and I am being completely honest with this as it still bothers me to this day) I’d felt a massive burst of energy fly towards to me, so much so that I actually leaned back a little as it was quite forceful.

With being a paranormal investigator I’m pretty use to this feeling and I knew that it was energy coming from the object, I think it was just the sheer force of it that had kinda caught me off guard.

Funnily enough, nothing was said and later that evening, My mum said to me ‘I really didn’t like that chair, I felt this massive gust of  energy fly towards me as the doors opened

I think my exact words were ‘Mom, you gotta be shitting me!‘ as I too then went on to explain it had also happened to me. We’d both been stood side by side and directly in front of the chair as the door opened.

That’s definitely an experience I am NEVER going to forget.

I’d legit give my right arm to investigate that room.

John Shaw – Freak Show

John Shaw at Zak’s haunted museum.

It was great that in between of seeing all of these items that some amazing humour and entertainment had been thrown in too! I think that’s awesome!

You gotta have a sense of humour doing this entire thing otherwise you’d actually go insane!

Well, I say a sense of humour, if your idea of fun is having a bunch of clowns jumping out at you and each one saying ‘Happy Birthday‘ in a creepy voice along the way…

Good thing it’s definitely my idea of fun and I’m not gonna lie, one of them did actually get me pretty bad and I screamed my head off. It’s still funny though.

Inside, Zak has a kind of ‘Carnival, Clowns and Freak show‘ thing going on and this entire floor smelt of popcorn.

Upon going into the room with John Shaw, I was kinda picked on a little bit as it was my birthday and taken to the front. The next thing I knew this guy had taken a drill out (YES A DRILL) and was drilling himself in the nostril and I was just like …. cool.

Whilst my mum proceeded to try and not vomit in the corner (lol)

It was quite interactive too. I had to hold a kind of ‘Jug‘ of water shall we say and then John, just a few inches away from my face now decided to stick hooks in his lower eyelids which also had chains dangling from them, I then had to fill the bucket at the end of these chains with the water so he could swing it from side to side using just his eyelids…

So yeah, thanks John! Awesome birthday.

Been dreaming about you for a few weeks now and those sexy eyelids.

Haha! But on serious note, it was really fun! and definitely a birthday I won’t be forgetting in a hurry! That’s for sure.

Sharon Tate’s Wedding Dress

Inside this room, Zak has a kind of ‘dead celebrity‘ memorabilia section. This was actually the room I had my first ‘profound’ experience in.

I was actually stood with my back to Sharon Tate’s wedding dress and I felt someone tap me on the shoulder a couple of times, as if to try and get my attention.

So much so that I actually thought it was my dad or something, but as I turned I realised that no one was there, in fact, everyone was stood in front of me. I’d instantly turned to my mom and told her what had happened. I have no idea who or what had tapped me on the shoulder or why, all I can say is that it definitely happened. I didn’t feel uncomfortable or threatened in any way, I genuinely just felt like someone was trying to get my attention.

Overall this room is pretty cool, it has a whole bunch of celebrity memorabilia.

Again They did state that not ‘everything’ is haunted or said to be haunted. Even if it’s not, it’s a really amazing collection, that along with all of the serial killer memorabilia too, which by the way, also has it’s own room…

Charles Manson exhibit

I actually saw Charles Manson’s teeth and a few more of his personal belongings as well as his ACTUAL ashes and bone fragments. Zak also had items that relate to John Wayne Gacy and Ted Bundy as well as MANY more.

Ed Geins Cauldron

The object was a rusty cauldron said to have been purchased from the Gein estate sale in 1958. A former neighbor named Hollis Brown saw the cauldron in a shed on the property while assisting police with cleanup in the wake of Gein’s November 16th, 1957 arrest. It was filled with blood and human remains

Now as mentioned at the very beginning, Zak’s museum has over 30 rooms and each have been designed to match the items that it holds.

Ed Geins however was my overall favourite.

The design hits you as soon as you walk in and it depicts a barn. It’s dark and eerie sounds as well as a red lamp above really add to the atmosphere.

All of the tour guides were fantastic, we had a new guide for each location in the museum and all were very informative and the tour inside the cauldron room was no different.

We were filled in of the gruesome details behind this item and it was shortly after that’ it felt like someone had stroked my leg.

I was wearing a dress that day as it was absolutely scorching outside, so the feeling of someones hand on my leg towards my thigh area was a little unmissable. Again, I was not stood by anyone at all and I was more towards the door as for some reason this room made me feel very dizzy and a little sick. So much so that I stayed by the door incase I had to run out and find the nearest bathroom!

I gotta admit, this room did freak me out. I didn’t like it at all.

It looked great, but the general energy and atmosphere was a big no.

The Demon House.

Remains of the Demon House – the most authenticated and and documented case of possession in American history.

As many of you know, Zak had the the former ‘Demon home’ bulldozed to the ground but he did keep certain remains of it, such as the staircase and some dirt from the basement.

All of this you can now see and experience in his museum.

This was another room I didn’t particularly enjoy. We were shown a brief video once more in regards to the story and documentary Zak had made and soon after the slats on the walls around us were removed and we were actually standing in the middle of the Demon House exhibit.

Both me, my mum and another person in our group instantly got the smell of sulphur.

Their generally was not a nice feeling but I wouldn’t go so far as to say it felt ‘evil‘ because it didn’t, It was more like a sadness. My mom also picked up on a damp smell, almost as if everything in there was very old.

Sometimes it’s hard to explain our feelings which is why you definitely need to go and check this place out for yourself.

Would I recommend it?

As stated when I first started this blog, I’m not here to BS anyone and I genuinely did have some experiences here.

I think it’s a great location and has some amazing authentic items, each of which can be backed up with legitimate history.

The tour guides are very informative and we were given ample time to check everything out. The tour runs for around an hour and a half (approx) but I think we was in there a little while longer.

I really thoroughly enjoyed my experience and it made it an awesome birthday. Massive thanks to Zak and his team who should all be very proud as it’s a great museum!

I would definitely recommend a visit if you’re ever in Vegas…

I’m already planning my trip back!

As a review I’d give this place a 10/10 and it certainly deserves all of the success it’s been receiving.

This place is legit if you want some place spooky cool to visit whilst in Vegas!

Until next time,

Happy Hunting!

Cannock Chase Mysteries.

Oh how we love a good mystery!

For this blog we decided to look into a more well-known location and some of the main mysteries and legends which surround the Cannock Chase Woods in Staffordshire.

The Black Eyed Children.

‘Black Eyed Child’ (Photo from google)

I’ve always been fascinated by the infamous ‘Black Eyed Children‘ stories and they have been spotted in the Cannock Chase woods on numerous occasions. I’m sure many of you here in the UK (and those of you around the world) will remember some of the articles revealing hideous images or video footage of children with eyes as black as coal hitting our news headlines several times over the years.

When you look up the description of the Black eyed children it reads…

‘Supposed paranormal creatures that ‘resemble’ children between the ages of 6-16 with pale skin and black eyes’

(Very specific age range there!)

It then goes on to say…

‘alleged sightings are taken seriously by ghost hunters, some of whom believe them to be extraterrestrials, vampires or demons.’

Okie dokie.

I can’t even argue with that statement as I’m about 99.9% sure there are certain individuals out there who do indeed believe these ‘Black eyed children‘ to be something utterly horrifying and terrible.

Believe me, I’ve seen the videos. People out in the middle of the night looking for a glimpse of these apparent ‘otherworldly‘ creatures..

In fact, a majority of the time the videos are titled ‘Demon black eyed children’ and a lot of them seem to stem around these poor kids being demonic/vampire in nature.

WELL… Let’s try to look at this from a ‘semi-logical’ point of view? (Says the girl who hunts ghosts for a living!)

The black-eyed children have been spotted on many occasions right? There are thousands of stories that surround them.

But did anyone actually really bother to look into the possible cause and history of this or did most of us just think that because they are reported to have black eyes that it automatically makes them a demon?

Let’s assume it’s the latter.

Do I think the black-eyed children are demonic in nature? No.

Do I believe in demons yet? It’s still a no from me because after 7 years of investigating I’ve never came across one yet, and believe me, I’ve been to a lot of supposedly ‘f**ked’ up places!

Do I believe in the black eyed children? There have been a lot of reports and a lot of footage floating around, hence why we wanted to check this out for ourselves.

But what makes this any different to any other ‘ghost caught on film’ which you see thousands of every other day?

It’s different because the tabloids blew it out of the water with their strange yet ‘eye catching’ headlines. (No pun intended)

Making this appear to be something malicious in nature. (Just my personal opinion)

So what’s another probable cause for these Hauntings?

If there are spirits of children in those woods and indeed they do have black eyes it’s a well-known fact that during the 1800’s there was an outbreak of a disease called ‘Diphtheria‘ and one of the symptoms of Diphtheria can actually be a coating inside of the eyes causing them to appear black or grey in nature.

SO this whole time people could have been running around the woods shouting ‘OMG DEMON CHILD‘ when in actual fact, it’s more ‘likely‘ that this poor child could have actually died from a terrible disease.

If you look into the reports of the black-eyed children, you’ll also find that when these children are spotted they were described to be wearing clothing that also depicted the 1800’s (which is when the disease would have been at its height)

They are evil monsters though right? I mean, what do I know? The TV said they are so it has to be 100% true. (wink wink)

So why are these reports taking place in the Cannock Chase woods? That part sadly I can’t answer. Without the actual facts of who died and for what reason in that particular area, We will never know!

I’d like to say I’m pretty sure they are not Demon’s, Extraterrestrials or Vampires though. (But just incase we made sure we packed our Ray Gun, Silver stake and Holy water!) I’m joking…

At the end of the day these still could be child spirits and it’s more ‘likely‘ that they had this disease and died from it. Which is why we took a completely different approach when investigating these ‘claims’.

So, with the above all said and done and our own theory in place..

We didn’t go looking for ‘Demon children‘ we went looking for child spirits and we treated them with the respect they so rightly deserved after all this time.

Other Mysteries.

Not only are the black eyed children a main feature of the Cannock Chase Mysteries but it also has a whole host of different legends!

Apparently Slender Man has been spotted in these woods. The story of slender man seem’s to center around an extremely tall dude who likes to capture kids. Unfortunately no one would let me borrow their child to test this theory so I had to put on some extra wrinkle cream that day and try to use myself as bait. Haaaa.

We also have something called the ‘Pig-man Aliens’ which is a creature that is half man half pig. Whole massive story about this online which I won’t get fully into, so feel free to google that.

Apparently it’s a hot spot for avid UFO hunters who claim the area to be a thriving hotbed of strange lights in the sky.

Then we have the usual

Honestly, with this list it’s surprising to me that Bigfoot didn’t decide to also make an appearance then we’d pretty much have a full house!

There’s also a story about an escaped ‘black panther‘ from a zoo that has now taken refuge in the woods. It’s been spotted on several occasions and there are some photos online.

Sounds delightful!

So we packed up our equipment and headed out for our investigation!

Day Visit.

Now before we get into the actual investigation, I’d like you to check out this video below.

(You’ll need headphones for the best experience.)

This is just a piece of footage from our day visit, I was filming this for our intro and I didn’t even realise I’d captured the moment until the next day when I was going through the footage.

We’d arrived at the woods and it was around 9 in the evening.

We’d taken a wander, I’d gotten some footage when we heard what sounded like someone coming towards us on their bike (or at least that’s what it first sounded like) but then it quickly turned into this soothing flute music which seemed to get louder and louder and at one point it was as if it was right next to us, yet, no one was around.

We were on the main path and could clearly see our surroundings. LUCKILY this little clip of footage picked up the music.

Have a listen below, let us know what you think in the comment section!

So, it’d already started off a little weird. We departed for a quick McDonald’s (standard) and came back once it had gotten dark.

The Investigation.

Cannock Chase (Photo by Haunted Insight)

Cannock Chase Woods is absolutely massive and it’s split into several different areas and sections. We’ve had a few people ask which section we went too and it was directly off the A460 on the main road before you turn into the oblivion of the woods.

We filmed the investigation and you can check out what we captured at the top of this page via the YouTube video.

We’d started to wander deeper into the woods away from the natural noises of the road. (Although it’s a pretty quiet road anyway!)

Admittedly I did get a little freaked out at the start because I could have sworn that I saw a child figure, glowing in white, stood by a tree. It’s such a cliché right?

I’d saw this out of the corner of my eye and to this day I’m still not sure if it was just my eyes playing tricks on me. It lasted for the split of a second but it was enough to freak me out and put me a little on edge.

We’d carried on a little further up the path and found an area which led off towards a small stream. I’ve always believed that water acts as a conduit for paranormal activity so it seemed like a pretty good place to start.

From the off both myself and James were hearing disembodied voices. By this time we’d kinda got use to the sounds of the animals around us and could distinguish the difference between anything weird and the natural noises of the forest. I heard a child on several occasions and you’ll see in the video we captured some strange voices on the cameras audio.

My favourite in particular was when we were talking about going up to the path and a voice came through (quite clearly) and agreed that we should “go stand up there

Throughout the night we’d stayed completely respectful incase there were child spirits present. I’d also bought a trigger object EMF bear with me “Charlie” and we decided to use this to try to communicate with the children.

Setting the bear on the ground we made the camera static and stepped back behind it. It took a few attempts but eventually the bear did light up… though it would not respond to my voice at the start and only to James! It was clear that if we were communicating with a spirit it had clearly taken a liking to him.

Throughout the night the Alice box had said several names but one in particular stays in my mind which is Nancy.

As you will see in the video we seemed to make a connection to someone drowning there due to the responses and again the letter ‘N’ came up as well as her full first name.

I’ve done some research online but couldn’t find anything factual to link this to a real event unfortunately.

During the excitement of the bear lighting up and the communication we were receiving it was then we began to hear what sounded like ‘howling’ in the woods.

It also sounded like a rather ‘large’ animal stomping around and reeking havoc. We cut filming then and there and went to check it out and it was indeed animals (that had probably been fighting) so due to this and also the scary story of the ‘escaped black panther’ we moved away from the area and headed to our next location a little further down where earlier James had seen what he believed to be a shadow figure propped by a fence.

Cannock Chase (Photo By Haunted Insight)

Due to the spirit box turning on in my bag (I still don’t know how that happened as you have to hold your finger down on it for a rather long time before it actually comes on) we figured maybe the spirit would like to communicate with us that way.

During our spirit box session we began to receive intelligent responses right from the off which is all documented in our video.

It did answer me when I asked where we were stating ‘Cannock’ and we also got the spirit to say James’ name.

The best piece of evidence for me of the night though is definitely when I asked if the spirit died here and it responded “yes” and then when I asked if they were buried here it responded

“You, help, find, body”

Absolutely chilling to look back at now, but at the time it was a fantastic intelligent response, it’s also VERY clear!

We also had what seemed like two spirits bickering between each other when asked how did you die.

“It doesn’t matter” in one voice and another intercepts saying “it does”

To add to the above we also had a heart wrenching response to that question just after which said “think it took me naturally

I was absolutely blown away by these responses.

Not everything is pointed out in the video and some we couldn’t understand. Have a listen, let us know what you hear? Leave us a comment on the blog below.

Under the stars.

Throughout the evening we received SEVERAL references to the ‘stars’ both through the Alice Box and the spirit box. This was all documented on film.

When asked where their body was buried again we received a response “to the stars” and then on the Alice Box it said ‘Stars Apart‘ and later ‘Above and Below

I think it’s a massive ‘conscience’ that two completely different devices seemed to pick up and centre around the same thing. Thinking about this now, when asked where are you buried, is it possible that the spirit who is still attached to their body could be resting in the ground?

And what would they see when they look up?

The stars.

Were they really trying to tell us where they are buried?! I have no idea! All I know is that I feel a kind of deep attachment to this place now and a need to help this spirit who didn’t seem at rest.

We will definitely be returning to Cannock Chase later in the year to see if we can get some more answers. (Although James wasn’t particularly fond of my idea of taking a shovel just incase lol)

I absolutely loved this investigation and due to the amount of activity we had, I’m happy to say that in my personal opinion there is definitely something otherworldly going on there…

But was it demons?

I’m afraid we didn’t come across any of those (again) but we did form a bond with this extra special location and it’s one I will certainly NEVER forget.

The full photo gallery from Cannock Chase will be available soon over on Haunted Insight.

But, Until next time…

Happy hunting!

Past life reading with Jenny Pugh.

Do you believe in past lives?

It’s a subject that has fascinated me for years and I’ve always been interested in getting my own reading done by a psychic who claims to be able to channel into that energy and tell you about our former selves.

There are many different notions and theories that surround this subject, Many come from personal views and from religious followings.

I am not religious in any way, my view comes from my own desire to know more about this phenomena and wondering if indeed it would be true that we have all lived many lives before our current one.

Some people believe in reincarnation, we can come back after we die and begin a new life as an animal, another person or even a plant or a tree.

But why can we never remember those lives that we had before?

It turns out that some of us do!

I remember reading a really fascinating article recently about a little boy around the age of four who would speak to his parents about his time upon the famous vessel The Titanic.

He would tell his parents how he and his wife were in the water and it was very cold. I remember seeing that his parents did a lot of research into the name the boy had given and could actually link it to a missing person from the ship.

April, 1912. The White Star liner "Titanic" leaving Queenstown harbour before making her maiden voyage en route for the USA. The ship struck an iceberg and sank near Newfoundland, killing 1550 people.
The Titanic sank on the 15th of April 1912

A lot of these stories do seem to come from young children, so much so that their was a show on TV which centered around just that called ‘The Ghost Inside My Child‘ which I’m sure many of you would have watched when it first hit our screens back in 2013.

But can it be true?

There are a lot of unanswered questions and just like many aspects of the paranormal I believe this is something we will never fully understand and the strength of belief can only come from experiencing something ourselves.

So how can a ghost hunter believe in past lives?

If we did really have a past life then how can we be hunting ghosts? surely our lives would be forever ongoing which would leave no time for a spirit to linger?

I have my own theory on this the same as anyone else one would. In my mind, a past life is just a shell of our former selves, I do believe we can have them and maybe we carry certain aspects of this person we once were into our new life.

The person we were before has their own soul and their own spirit, but a part of that person will move on to a new vessel in life. Hence I still believe in spirits and ghosts and all that’ goes bump in the night!

As an adult, I’ve looked into this a lot and as mentioned before the whole entire aspect of a past life seemed to stem around a huge belief system that can be viewed differently by many individuals all around the world.

Essence of a past life?

There is a theory that if you are afraid of certain things in your current life without a reasonable explanation, that maybe you had a bad experience with this in a past life.

For example;

I’ve always had a fear about things exploding in my face. Obviously this has never happened to me in ‘this’ life, but even standing by a microwave will make me back away as in the back of my mind I would see it exploding and this is a true deep fear that I have.

I also once had a very vivid ‘memory’ of me being a different person and I remember telling my mum about it as a child. I told her that I remember the war sirens going off in the street and that we all had to take cover in an underground bunker. Bearing in mind that I was born in 1989 which is long after any war had ever taken place.

So why do I have this vivid memory? Even now I can see the old streets in my mind and as a child, why was this so important to me?

Some people even believe that certain aches or pains you have could be giving you an insight into how you died in a past life, again, for example, if you suffer with severe neck back but for no apparent reason, it could be an indication that you were hung! And there are many different notions that surround this for various pains! Just look it up!

It is also said we could have known many people who are close to us in this life in a past life which is why we feel so attached to them, hence the saying of a soul mate or a best friend. That feeling as if you have known someone forever. We all have it.

It’s very strange indeed.

Recently I was introduced to a Psychic on Twitter, Jenny Pugh.

She is very well-known in the field and is highly trusted by her following. We’d become friends through someone we knew mutually and we began to talk which is when I saw that she offers past life readings. I literally jumped at the chance to have mine done!

Jenny gave me a very detailed reading and now I am going to share MY personal reading with all of you!

The Farm Girl.

I have tuned into my spirit guides, and they have told me the following about three of your previous incarnations:
In the first life that they are showing you, you have incarnated in female form. I can see you as a lady who is wearing a long rough fabric dress with a headscarf pulled tightly under her chin. She is in her forties but I also feel that she has lived a very rough and rural existence which has aged her prematurely and she looks much older than her years.
She has blondish hair which is swept back over her head under the scarf and has blue-ish eyes. He face is lined and full of character. My spirit guides are telling me that she was a farm worker, although it wasn’t her own farm that she worked on, but one belonging to her older brother. There she undertook many of the farm chores such as looking after the poultry and ‘the’ cow (think they only had one, probably for milking).
Now they are telling me about her work as a thresher, she worked in the fields helping to produce wheat which made money for the family as well as keeping them fed. I can see her working by hand bent over working at the side of the field. It was a very hard life for her with early mornings and long days and they are showing me a close up of the palms of her hands, which are calloused and have evidence of previous cut injuries.
I am getting a name which sounds like ‘Sarah’ connected to her and I also feel that she lived on the western coast of Scotland. She was unmarried but was quite happy that way. She was quite a superstitious lady and I feel that she was a bit scared to go out into the wider world as she had a physical deformity (of her back I think) which made her a possible target for ridicule (or accusations of witchcraft etc) from others.
She was a warm and caring person who got on better with animals than she did people and she tended to stick close to the very small number of people that she trusted. They are now showing me her taking the cow to a nearby stream to have a drink (it is pale brown coloured – the cow not the stream! lol). Spirit are also explaining that there was telling me that there was a period of unsettlement in their local community, with other properties being burnt out or people attacked so the family tended to keep themselves to themselves as much as possible.
She was also a great weaver and spun her own cloth, and as she worked she used to make up stores to entertain herself. She was fascinated about what lay over the ocean and I feel she may have had some empathic ability too as she could detect when people were going to be ill.
They are now showing me the lady at a lot older age. She is dressed in dark clothing, almost bent double with a stick to support her and she has lost most of her teeth. She is still living on the farm ‘it’s her home and she never wanted to leave’ someone just said.
I also feel that she had a twin sister (‘Mary’ or similar sounding name) who died before the age of five and who guided (from spirit) while she was on the Earth plane. The lady passed away I feel in her late 60’s or early 70’s with complications of the heart. It was nothing dramatic, it just slowed down and gave out, and she went peacefully.

A British Soldier.

In the second life that my guides are telling me about, you incarnated as male (I’m not sure if you knew this, but we can reincarnate as either male or female in different lives). You were a young soldier, one who was badly injured in a war. I can sense the left side of my face feeling like it is on fire and know it was a badly disfiguring injury. It looks like some sort of burn and shrapnel injury, and although terrible, it was not fatal at the time. ‘Didn’t see it coming’ I just heard them say, ‘but ‘lived to tell the tale’.
My guides are talking about ‘trenches’ and ‘a tommy’ so believe that you were a British soldier who fought in WW1. I can see a medal being pinned on your uniform by someone.
I believe your name was Henry, and you were the third youngest of four sons of a hardworking family. You were good-looking and very proud about your appearance (showing me you shinning your boots). You were very proud to fight for your country ‘in the Great War’ as were your older brothers (I see the youngest brother as a lot younger and wasn’t old enough to go to war).
Unfortunately, only yourself and another of your other brothers survived the war as one (second oldest I think) was killed. ‘Two out of three isn’t bad!’, someone just said a bit sarcastically about all the deaths of the young men lost in that war.
Spirit are telling me that you went to be trained at ‘Colchester’. which you found scary and new as you were only a teenager when you signed up (feel you were between your 18th and 19th birthday). You were born and grew up  ‘in the sticks’ in the north-west of the UK. To be more precise, I just heard my guides say ‘Westmoreland’, (which I believe today is known as Cumbria).
You made many friends while you were in the army and you found you had an aptitude for physical activity and sport what surpassed many of your friends. You also took easily to the discipline but you had problems being away from home and missed family (especially your mother). I feel this young man was away from home for about 18-24 months in total. When he was finally invalided out of the army and returned home, he was a lot thinner and gaunt looking.
He was a very tall young man with dark brown hair and ‘hazel eyes’ (they are saying). He looked very smart in his uniform but was glad to back in ‘civvies’ and try to put his war experiences behind him. Although he was disfigured, he chose not to try to hide it (or himself) and found work locally. They are not telling me what exactly, but I can see him (you!) in pale smock-like top and trousers and carrying sacks on his back (flour maybe?), moving them around (could have been working for a miller).
They are telling me that he was also very mechanically minded and could fix things for people and was very well thought of in the community (see him fixing a bike).
He did eventually find his true love and married aged 25 to a slightly younger lady (getting the name ‘Rose’). I can see a family photo of him with a youngster on his knee who is holding a teddy bear.
The ex-soldier suffered a lot from arthritis in later years (probably as a result of being in the trenches) and passed away from the effects of long-term smoking (see him with a pipe).
He felt that he had a very happy life and was committed to his family (he had three children in total, one of whom apparently became a doctor – possibly inspired by his father’s injuries). When I asked about his final resting place I just heard spirit say ‘Morecambe’, so believe he must have eventually settled back in the North West, but by the sea rather than going back inland. They are saying although his life was ‘shorter than some, it was richer than most!’

American Free Spirit.

The third life I am getting is from the mid to later 1800’s I believe and spirit are saying that you lived in ‘Wisconsin’ in the United States, where you lived and worked on a horse breeding ranch.
You were ‘small in stature’ and had blonde hair in this life too. Although you were living a rural farm life in America, I feel that you were the child of immigrant parents who had brought you there when you were a toddler and that the family had originated in the Netherlands.
You loved the wide open spaces and the animals (a theme which seems to very prevalent throughout your past lives) and adored growing up there where you were home-schooled by your mother. You excelled at mathematics and at languages (including German, French and some Italian) and you were quick to learn and intelligent.
Your dream was to travel which you did once, when you were older you had a trip to New York City (which changed your views about the world forever). You were a ‘voracious reader’ and poured over any book you could find (especially travel journals and tales of African adventure).
You were a bit of a loner and ‘free spirit’ you tended to scare men because of your ability to hold your own with them (which you found to be amusing), and it was your forties before you finally settled down (seeing a distinguished gent with pale face and black moustache).
You were unfortunately widowed around the age of fifty-two and didn’t remarry. You did not have any children but found solace in reading and in your art which you began studying later in life and you became quite a self accomplished landscape painter, and although the style was quite naïve (can see the thick colourful brushstrokes), your work was dynamic and engaging. You passed away in your sleep as an elderly lady ‘just drifted off’ spirit are saying, and I can see a smile on your face as you passed away.

Well there you have it guys! My three past life readings!

I was actually very surprised as it was certainly not what I was expecting and in retrospect some of it does ring true to my personality and the way I view life now.
So could it be true?
If you believe or even if you do not, It’s certainly a fun thing to do and experience. Having this in my life now is certainly something I will keep as a fond memory and something to look back upon.

Anchor Church Cave.

The Anchor Church cave is a mysterious dwelling nestled on the banks of the River Trent in Derbyshire, England.

This magnificent rock face has over 1,000 years of history. Originally being naturally formed by the action of the river upon the rock.

According to local history the Cave was home to St Hardulph of Breedon and is first mentioned in the Repton Church Record in 1658.

St Hardulph would live and pray here between the 16th and 17th century to find peace and reflection. The site would also become known as a safe haven from Pagan prosecution.

The Cave itself was never as big as it is now, this is due to a man-made intervention in th 1800’s.

In the middle ages the Caves would become home to a Monk by the name of Friar Bernard who would then go on to die at the location whilst doing penance for his involvement in a crime, which, I will get to soon!

By the early 1800’s a wealthy family who have links to the nearby Foremark Hall would take it upon themselves to extend the cave and have a door fitted in 1845. This was all paid for by their younger son, Sir Francis Burdett.

The Burdett family would then go on to use the cave as a summer-house where they would hold lavish parties and picnics although it is rumoured that women were not permitted to attend these parties and it became a sort of ‘mans club‘.

Some even believe it could have been Masonic in nature.

A Story of Jealousy And Betrayal.

There is a very well-known legend which surrounds the area of the cave and that of Foremark. A wealthy man by the name of Sir Hugo De Burdett who lived in a castle at the nearby knowle hill presumably murdered his wife and her supposed lover in the woods beside the cave!

The story goes that whilst Sir Hugo was away his wife Johanne had been unfaithful to him with his close friend and advisor the Baron of Boyvill.

Boyvill was apparently a well known ladies man who would try to court Johanne although she had made it very clear to him that she was married and not interested. Boyvill, determined to get his own way would then go on to Bribe a monk named Bernard (as mentioned above) to con Sir Hugo into embarking on a crusade, thus leaving his wife alone and defenceless.

So whilst Hugo was away, Boyvill would then make his move upon poor Johanne.

Whilst away in the holy land, Sir Hugo was captured by Bernard and then told that his wife was unfaithful and unwilling to pay a ransom for his return, which of course was a lie. Meanwhile, Boyvill went on to tell Johanne that Hugo was dead and that he would now marry her whether she liked it or not!

Later, Boyvill would refuse to keep paying Bernard to keep Hugo as a hostage and so Bernard would allow Hugo to go free. It was then, a few years later that Hugo would come across Boyville whilst on a hunting trip at the surrounding wood of the foremark cave.

The argument and heartbreak were settled by the point of Hugo’s sword where he apparently killed Boyville and as Johanne would try to intervene he supposedly cut off her left hand, the hand of betrayal where her wedding ring would once have been.

It is said that Johanne had also bled to death in those woods.

Meanwhile Friar Bernard would then spend the rest of his days in the cave of the Anchor church for his crime. He would call to Sir Hugo whilst on his deathbed. He told Hugo the truth about everything and then Hugo would  begin to mourn his wife, forever feeling his guilt and a great pain.

Sir Hugo’s ghost is said to haunt the area, still sorrowing for his wife.

But, How much truth is there to this story? We don’t know. The names and references can be linked to real people of that time and indeed there was a monk called Bernard that did live and die in the cave for an unknown crime he committed. But did all of this really happen?

I guess that’s why they call it ‘A local legend’

UFO’s And Little Green Men.

Upon our first day visit to reccy the cave, Myself and James had arrived to take photos and some footage for our intro as well as to get a handle of the area just in general.

We’d taken The Alice Box device with us which had began to throw out a few words. One in particular being ‘Alien‘ which in retrospect is something I would usually ignore and just assume the device had thrown out a random word.

It wasn’t until we’d explored the cave that we found that someone had drawn three ‘Alien‘ head symbols in a kind of graffiti on the wall inside of the cave.

Later that evening, with my mind ticking over the subject, I’d decided to do a little research into it and I found out that particular area in Derbyshire is very well-known for UFO sightings in the sky.

Not only that, some believe the area to be very active for this phenomena as there is a power station very nearby and apparently that can act as a hub for that kind of activity and those interested in that kind of thing are known to camp out at the cave looking for a glimpse of something quite literally, out of this world!

Now, I’m not a UFO hunter, I’m a ghost hunter, but I did find this theory fascinating all the same, especially because the Alice box had said that particular word which then led me to find out that it does indeed have links to the area….

Crazy huh?

So if there is any avid UFO hunters out there, check this place out and let us know if you find anything?

Our Investigation.

This was our second visit to the Anchor Church Cave, although our first had only been a few days in between each other!

We always like to reccy a location first to find out what we are dealing with and this was a prime example of why we do this! It turns out the cave is a couple of miles walk (at least.) The first time we went we almost died and the second time we got absolutely drenched and covered in mud… It was fun though!

It’s not for the faint of heart, I’ll tell you that!

But, regardless of all that, the cave itself and the surrounding area once we had arrived was absolutely beautiful. As mentioned we went early evening whilst it was still light which allowed James to take some amazing photographs.

I definitely recommend you check out our investigation video at the top of the page if you haven’t already!

It’s fine me sat here explaining what happened to you, but in the video you can also see for yourself some of the amazing stuff we captured!

On our second visit we went straight into the investigation.

It was around half past 9 when we got to the cave and it doesn’t start getting dark here properly until around 10PM now in these ‘summer months’

It may have been a little light outside but inside of the cave it was as dark as ever and we pretty much began to receive intelligent responses from the off.

I like this location as it’s not typically investigated by a lot of teams all year around. I can understand why though with the journey you have to take to get there!

To me that makes it a really special place.

Though I’m sure that after this blog goes out a lot of other investigators will want to check it out (if they haven’t already) all I will say is PLEASE BE CAREFUL if visiting due to the terrain and also be mindful of going on a Friday or a weekend evening as it tends to be full of youths drinking or people camping out.

You’re better off going midweek and hoping you don’t bump in to anyone… living at least! (lol)

We began our investigation in the left side of the cave.

I’d actually set up a small ‘Alter’ with a cross and some candles as well as a touch sensor device made by Andy at Infraready. I wanted to do this experiment as the cave was used as a place of worship in the past and I was hoping it may have drawn out some of the spirits that could possibly reside there.

Alter in the cave

As stated, we had strange happenings right from the off.

A lot of the activity seemed to stem around the carved cave entrance doorway where we heard what sounded like footsteps a few times. It was as if someone was entering and then stopping at the door and not coming inside fully.

Maybe it’s because we were there? but we did our up most to try to make this spirit feel comfortable and to join us, which eventually, we believe it did.

You’ll see in the video that we captured a few strange voices on the cameras audio (best to listen with headphones) some of the words are quite clear and the majority seemed to be coming from a female.

One of my favourite moments is when James moves into the left side and you’ll clearly hear a muffled voice say “Hi” at first which then turned to “Hello” a little louder.

I remember being sat in the opposite side of the cave and hearing a woman’s voice at that moment although I was unsure what she had said.

Within a few seconds I responded and just said “hello?”

It’s as if I had answered her! You can also then see the difference between the voice captured on the audio and my own.

We also had a strange experience with the candles. I’m still unsure if it was just the wick making them change / blow but it only seemed to do it when we asked it too or we were calling out.

I can’t definitely say that was paranormal… but at the same time I can’t say it wasn’t (like a lot of things I suppose!)

James began to hear voices in the cave so we decided to conduct an EVP session. I like to use white noise when conducting EVP, I believe it helps the spirits to speak. You’ll see me explain this in the video about the different types of noise.

We did about four or five sessions but only two of them stood out to me when listening back. Those are the two that are included in the video.

I ran them through a programme so you can see audio waves and where it spikes. When the voice appears on the EVP strangely there is no spike unlike when me and James speak, you can clearly see the audio format of those.

My favourite is definitely what sounds like a little girl humming and if you listen close with headphones it carries on right to the end of that particular recording.

For the final part of the investigation we moved into the right side of the cave. In this area for some unknown reason James always feels uncomfortable. He said it’s like he’s being surrounded, just an uncomfortable feeling which puts him on edge!

I actually felt fine this entire investigation and didn’t feel threatened in the slightest.

We had the Alice box running at this point and at first it seemed to be describing the remanence of the evening at the cave prior to this one. It was quite clear someone had camped inside of it with leftover BBQ and wood etchings on the floor.

The Alice box said ‘tent’ ‘burning’ — it all made sense.

During this time we’d also caught the flash of a light next to me which James had also witnessed with his own eyes.

We actually captured this on camera. I’ve zoomed in and also slowed it down for you all to check out. When I did a frame by frame on the footage it approximately lasts for around half a second or so. It appears to swoop up out of nowhere and then disappear.

We were using an infrared night vision camera and were not using any kind of direct light source therefore we have no idea where this flash could have come from and it was the only time it happened on the footage throughout the night.

I personally believe that using infrared whilst investigating makes any kind of light anomaly or shadow much more credible.

Alice Box saying the name ‘Jack’

With the Alice box responding well, we also received two names.

Elizabeth and Jack.

I don’t know why but at the time I had a feeling about these two names, whether I just have a really overactive imagination or not I don’t know. I really had a hunch that Jack was a child.

You’ll see me speak about this in the video and then a disembodied voice will respond “yes” — was this answering me? Was I right? I don’t know. I seem to be picking up on more and more strange feelings like this just lately.

I’ve now researched the names to see if I could link them to the area and whilst I couldn’t find anything for Jack, I did indeed find something for an Elizabeth.

Elizabeth Burdett was the mother of Sir Francis Burdett. Her son was the one who extended the caves in the middle 1800’s — she died when he was very young and later his father remarried. She was actually quite well-known to the foremark area.

Was this Elizabeth communicating with us throughout the evening?

As mentioned, the disembodied voices we captured seemed to be coming from a female.

Now with James still feeling a little uneasy we did have a quick break and then do a spirit box session for around 15 minutes or so.

This is not included in the video as unfortunately we didn’t capture a single voice. It was nothing but white noise for the entire time.

I really enjoyed this investigation, it definitely felt like we were not alone and we believe whatever was there definitely made itself known!

Welcome to the next investigation installment blog!

Entrance to the cemetery.

For this blog myself and James of Haunted Insight traveled to Sheffield to investigate the incredibly eerie Wardsend Cemetery!

Brief History

Wardsend cemetery spans a MASSIVE 5 acres and is reported to have over 20,000 graves on the site. The ground that it stands on was originally purchased by a man called John Livesey in 1857. He was the vicar of a nearby church.

The original purpose of the land was to be an overfill graveyard.

The first burial to take place on the grounds was that of two year old Ann Marie Marsden in 1857 and she is said to be the ‘guardian of the cemetery’

The Graveyard is also the only one in Britain with an active railway line passing through it.

As well as Ann who is buried on it’s grounds it’s also known for being the final resting place of George Lambert who was a highly decorated Irish soldier.

The site also holds many plots for the victims of the Great Sheffield Flood in 1864.

The cemetery was closed to legal burial in 1968 and since then Sheffield City Council have done little to maintain the cemetery and it has fallen into neglect.

The 1862 Riot

Artist newspaper illustration.

On the 3rd of June 1862 a riot broke out at the Cemetery as the Reverard John Livesey and his sexton Isaac Howard were accused of neglecting to bury corpses and instead selling them to the town’s medical school for anatomical dissection!

The rumors were later proven false but both Livesey and Howard were fined for reusing graves in order to save space although many still believed that they were guilty!

The two were originally accused by a man called Robert Dixon who’d moved into the sexton’s house.

He said he observed a ‘curious smell’ coming from the room above the stable and when he approached he found many coffins with corpses, the majority which seemed to age from ten to sixteen years old.

We will never know truthfully what went on at this time, but it certainly gives you something to be aware of when approaching the investigation!

Ghost Stories

Over the years the site has been a ‘breeding ground’ for those with darker intentions.

As the Graveyard is abandoned it has involuntarily opened it’s doors to many who wish to perform rituals on the site.

In fact, it’s no secret that these grounds have been used for that exact purpose in the past with the intent to summon something malicious.

The cemetery itself and the headstones are filled with different symbols and markings.

I even once came across a group of people who looked to be performing a ritual only a mere few years ago.

They were shrouded in black cloaks and standing around a fire they had created and were chanting at the top of the main path. As we’d approached they had all decided to run off leaving the reminisce of a ritual behind.

What they were planning to do, I have no idea.

Many stories have surfaced over the years of this type. In fact, due to so much of this being done, one of the more famous ‘ghost stories‘ is that of a dog like creature which prowls the area with piercing red eyes.

Apparently this has been spotted on several occasions by visitors.

Not only this but there have been many reports of  young children walking the site late at night and also some vistors and investigarors have seen apparitions that seem to be holding some kind of old fasioned oil lamps! VERY spooky indeed!

One of the many sunken graves.

The Investigation

Please watch the video to find out what happened!

Headstone Markings

Star like symbol drawn on the headstones.

You can see in the above photo one of the several markings on the headstones at Wardsend. I’d like to point out that not every headstone is marked, just a few along the main path!

We went into this investigation totally blind with only the stories and a brief history of what had been happening at the location.

Markings, rituals and witchcraft is not our area. So after the investigation I got into contact with the white witch & psychic medium Patti Negri who was able to give us some input in to what she believes these markings could be!

It feels like both a ‘marker and a protection sigil’ like the eight sided cross although the ones in the photos have been quickly done. These are used a lot in compass work and in ritual and can signify the protection sigil ‘Helm of awe’. They were clearly marking the graves for some reason and adding magick and protection to the mix.

I would like to say a massive thanks to Patti for her input on this as I really had no idea which way to turn with it….

Her input made a lot of sense!

During the investigation as you will see in the video above. Myself and James were unsure if these markings were possibly made for something much more darker. Though the evidence we captured and the responses we received now make more sense for the markings to actually be protection!

When the word ‘Crayon and Wash‘ came through on the Alice box, we now believe this may have been a darker entity trying to persuade us to clean the graves and take off the protection that had been put upon the headstones!

Which is why you will then hear a man’s voice intercept as a direct voice phenomenon through the camera’s audio and say ‘I don’t want you here‘ – Which could have been someone protecting their final resting place!

Also when we asked why the marking’s were on the graves, Alice responds again saying the word ‘War

Which again we now believe is a darker entity that may have been ‘summoned‘ to the area, telling us exactly what was going on.

Do I believe in Demons? It’s still a no from me!

But I do believe that bad spirits and energy can be brought into something during rituals.

It definitely feels like a battle between good and bad upon the entire path on the way up!

Investigation Analysis

As stated above, it now makes sense that the spirits may be trying to keep the protection upon their graves, so with this new insight, we will be returning back to the site with a completely different approach.

I am still VERY intrigued to find out who this dark entity is that claims they were the ‘devil‘ so many occasions during our SONOX10 spirit box session.

As you will see above, we received A LOT of intelligent responses throughout the night.

Even reference to ‘The dogs are out‘ which makes sense and links to the ghost story of the dog like creature with red eyes! We knew about this story before the investigation, which is why you’ll see us react to it!

Not only this but also the story of the guardian of the cemetery. A very clear soft female voice comes through and asks ‘please leave‘ as if in a kind of polite warning.

I wanted James to do a brief write up of how he felt when we ventured up to the top of the graveyard.

I have honestly never seen him act this way before!

Here is what James had to say about the whole ordeal!

Walking around graveyards is a bit of a hobby of mine, but before Wardsend I’d only ever investigated one. I’ve heard many views on whether burial grounds can be haunted or not, and just like everything in the paranormal, I agree with some and not others. In my opinion, the only way you can find out is by getting out there and experiencing it for yourself, and what we experienced that night at Wardsend will live with me forever.

Like many of the locations myself and Vicky investigate, we start by having a general walk around to gather our bearings so to speak. It’s at this point that I try and get some photos of the location whilst we also talk about how we are going to conduct the investigation. This all went plain sailing on the night in question, Vicky had been there before, so I’d already been told what to expect.

As we explored the dark and overgrown headstone ridden woods, I felt a buzz, but it was mixed with a feeling of nervousness and restrain. We headed back to the main gate to start the investigation with the view to going to the upper tier of the cemetery to do some spirit box work. We’d had some recent success with a new program that we are using, and we were excited to see what evidence we could gain here.

It didn’t take long for us to work our way up to the railway bridge which acts as a gateway to the higher ground. After crossing, we sat on some steps that had been landscaped into the sloping banks. We put the Alice Box in front of us whilst we set up the spirit box. As we were arranging our equipment, I saw what I thought to be a large shadow type figure to the right of us. Now, it’s extremely dark, our only light came from the moon so I can’t rule out it being a trick of the light or even my imagination – which at this point was racing!

We proceeded to conduct our spirit box session, unlike others we have used in the past, this one cuts out the white noise and therefore we are able to pick up on responses with relative ease. As you will see from the Vlog, we started getting some fantastic responses, such as Vicky sneezing etc… I’m kidding! Yet also when watching the video, you will see the exact moment where, in all honesty, I absolutely s##t myself. You’ll notice that the camera is sent looking into the stars and the night sky of Sheffield, but this was no visual for editing purposes.

No, I had rocked almost onto my back as a defence mechanism, as we had someone, or something run straight at us! We were sat maybe 4/5 steps up from the bridge, the floor is like what you would expect at a local park, hard with loose gravel. If you’ve ever walked around your local park, you’ll know the sound of that gravel under foot as a jogger approaches you from behind. It’s unmistakable, and extremely unusual for it to happen right in front of you when there is no one there. That’s exactly what happened, it’s the only way to describe it, it blew us away, yet it’s also the point where my mood changed completely.

I remember standing up and scanning the area with my torch. Remember, when we are filming, we only have infrared, and anything other than the camera screen is in total darkness. I could have sworn someone had just ran at us, an actual person, and I was in no mood for playing games. Let me put you in my position, it’s just me and Vicky, we have a lot of equipment and cameras, adding up to I don’t want to guess how much, and someone had just ran at us in the dark…

I went into complete defence mode. I don’t recall much of what I was saying but looking back at the footage I’m almost a little bit embarrassed. I was ready to fight, it was as simple as that. I had to protect us both, and everything we had with us. It was a natural reaction, apparently Vicky was repeatedly shouting me to come back as I went looking for what or who it was, but I didn’t even hear her, I was completely zoned out. The most amazing thing about it all was that there was no one there.

Not a soul, it was so close to us that if it was a person, we’d have seen them. I immediately put my torch on, unless they had Harry Potter’s cape of invisibility then I can only assume that whatever it was wasn’t human. It was a truly unbelievable experience that involved fear, aggression, excitement and a little bit of laughter – only afterwards though! I’ll never forget it, and I’ll just apologise now for walking off and leaving Vicky in the dark!

I hope you have enjoyed the blog and the video.

In my mind we captured some great evidence which fell in line with the location and it was an incredibly draining night!

I knew at that moment towards the end that it was time to wrap it up, the entire feeling in the cemetery was not right and it definintly felt like we’d overstayed our welcome!

I can’t wait to return now that we have new information and maybe we will be able to shed some light on what is REALLY going on there!

The FULL gallerey of photos will be available soon and will be over on Haunted Insight

Happy Hunting!

The Hermit Cave.

Hi everyone! Welcome to the next investigation instalment blog!

For this blog we travelled to Derbyshire to investigate the hauntingly beautiful Hermit Cave!

For those of you that don’t know, I actually wrote an article for Haunted Magazine (Issue H20) where I covered the story of the Hermit  and what it was that made him leave his life behind as a baker and decide to live a solitary life in the woods.

I definitely suggest you check it out to get the full historical story.

The issue can be read for free via the app or you can order your copy in print by visiting the Haunted Magazine website!

The Hermit Cave.

The entirety of the Hermit Cave and the woodland surrounding is deemed to be extremely sacred ground. I won’t get into the full history of the Hermit, but the story goes that he had a vision from god and was told to move to the woodland and live out a solitary life.

The hermit supposedly spent the next 80 years living inside of this cave and practicing his faith.

So why is the cave reputed to be so haunted?

Pathway to the cave.

Over the years there have been many stories which surround the cave and some of them are very dark indeed. It is said that satanic rituals have taken place here as if to once disrupt the peaceful ground and try to summon something much more evil.

I will admit…

I have investigated the cave on a few occasions and as mentioned in my article for Haunted Magazine I have always believed that there is some kind of push between good and evil.

Although it can totally depend on when you visit and what those spirits have in store for you.

Do I believe that something demonic resides there?

The answer is simple. No.

BUT I do believe that the grounds and the cave itself harbours a strange energy of good and bad spirits. The bad spirits which in my experience, like to imitate and pretend that they are worse than they actually are….

Surely if something demonic was there, I’d be in a worse state than I am now after investigating it so many times in the past!

That’s how I like to look at it logically anyway.

The Investigation.

Joined by my friend and fellow investigator James Pykett of Haunted Insight & HauntedLIVE we ventured to the cave for another investigation.

I say another, it was for me, but this was the first time that James had ever visited this location.

We were armed with our equipment in hand and it was around 9PM when we arrived.

We’d taken the short walk up to the cave and through the woodland and on the way it seemed that the activity had already began because the brand new batteries I’d only just put into my torch moments ago had already started to drain.

These are industrial batteries, they should last for hours (if not days) so yes, I did find that a little strange!

Also, it’s not the first time that this has happened to me whilst investigating this location.

As we’d approached the cave, we did a quick scope of the area to make sure that no one was around and it was all clear.

We’d stepped foot inside of the cave and heard a ‘Hiss‘ like sound almost immediately.

The cave is not a massive area, in fact, it’s incredibly small. We couldn’t see an animal inside and nothing had gone past us to get out.

We had no idea where the hiss had come from and if I’m honest, it almost sounded human.

From that moment, we went straight into investigating.

We began to call out, asking for noises and signs that someone was there with us. We did hear a few strange bangs which sounded like they were coming from above the cave, not only this, but myself and James both saw what looked like a ‘dark shadow‘ move from the right side of us.

Whatever it was looked as if it was inside of the cave with us.

Now taking out some equipment, we decided to test a new ghost box called the SONOX10 Spirit Box.

The above is a description from the creator to explain how the device works!

For the first part of the off camera session we started to receive words such as ‘Sacrifice, Alter, Demon, Demonic‘ I was even called a ‘Bitch‘ as I’d called out.

It was pretty apparent to us what kind of night this was going to be.

With such accurate responses relating to the stories of the area, we flicked on our night vision camera and hit record to try and document some of them!

Here’s the full Ghost Box session video!

We captured some AMAZING responses, please give it a watch and let us know what you think!

I think my favourite moment in the above video is capturing that ‘cackle‘ of a laugh which must have spanned over several sweeps!

To me, that’s pretty awesome!

Not only that, but we were receiving FULL sentences!

Honestly, I’m still pretty amazed by it all.

Ghost Box Session Analysis.

The first part of the ghost box session seemed to be making reference to ‘naughtiness‘ quite a fair bit. What makes it so intelligent is that I kept hearing a male laugh and then we receive the response ‘We’re having fun‘ so to me, that comes across as something clearly playing with us.

You will then hear a female intercept and say ‘Scratch her little butt‘ which watching back, I was a bit like WOAH… No way did it just say that, but it CLEARLY does.. I couldn’t not point that out (as stupid as it sounds)

You’ll then again hear a male come through and say ‘A bit naughty‘ and then we received that creepy cackle of a laugh from a female. Everything rolled in conjunction with one and other and it wasn’t long after this that I heard the noise next to me….

I still think the leaf randomly flying into the window is a little creepy.

Considering there was no wind. It could have been an animal, I’m not going to discount that, but it sounded closer to me like it was inside of the cave.

In my mind, I felt like it was building up to something.

( And don’t worry, I checked my ‘Little butt‘ when I got home and I hadn’t been scratched LOL )

Moving on to the next part, we switched it up and James took the ghost box to see what kind of response he would receive with him being a male.

As you’ll see in the video, His name is said pretty much from the moment it’s turned back on as you’ll hear a woman say ‘James Can help‘ and after that yet again we receive another intelligent response when he asked ‘who keeps moving?’ it responds ‘very good movement

The next part I believe we were picking up on some kind of ‘residual‘ energy as it speaks the words ‘F**cked and then says ‘I’m gonna die, and I know it‘ !!

That was one of the best and clearest sentences I’ve EVER heard through a ghost box.

It can only make you wonder what this moment is referring to and what possibly could have happened in this cave!

The only name we received all night through the ghost box was ‘Walter‘ – The ‘W’ sounds quite pronounced to me, but again it could be conceived as ‘Alter‘ as there actually is one in the cave on the opposite side.

The other name we received was ‘Donald‘ and this was given to us through the Alice Box later in the night.

James would also ask the question ‘can you come towards me and try and touch me‘ and again the spirit box would respond within seconds ‘Reach out and touch me‘ – another amazing intelligent response over several sweeps!

The sound outside was also strange, it was like a gate opening.

There is gate which you have to go through to get to the cave but it’s at least a good mile or so away. Unless the sound travelled to us, but again, who had opened it? We didn’t see anyone else whilst we were there and when we later reached the gate on the way out, it was still closed.

Not long after this we heard what sounded like footsteps outside. Again, we can’t discount that this was just an animal. Luckily the camera picked up the rustling of the leaves so you can hear it for yourselves. At the time it didn’t sound as pronounced as that to us, it actually sounded like tiny feet outside, like a child. Soon the Alice box said ‘7‘ randomly after we mentioned a kid.

You’ll see me react and say maybe its an age?

I honestly think James was spot on with his statement of saying that something was messing with us and maybe trying to imitate a child as nothing else seemed to be working. It wanted to gain our trust.

With receiving responses such as ‘Demonic’ Scratch her, Alter‘ etc… There was no way that I believed it was a child spirit.

For the last part of the session, I’d already spoken aloud and made it pretty clear that I didn’t think it was a child, but I’d humour it all the same.

I think this actually may have annoyed whatever spirit was there, as it began to take a dark turn once more.

I’ve honestly never heard my name being said so many times through a ghost box. I didn’t hear it whilst we were sat in the cave but watching it back I was SHOCKED.

Not only did it say my name, it also called me a bitch again.

The voices were very odd, they also sounded ‘child like‘ but they definitely had a darker tone behind them and the giggle was the weirdest thing I’d ever heard.

You’ll also clearly hear the ghost box say ‘Get out all of you, Ha ha‘ right towards the end.

I think it was a pretty eventful night and the responses we got were impressive!

Myself and Jame’s are already planning to go back to see what else we can get now that we’ve been through the footage and know what to expect!

The light anomaly was also strange, definitely not a bug of any sort and there was no moisture or dust in the air, it was a clear night. No wind, no nothing.

Plus it seemed to fade out of noting and beam brighter before it disappeared.

Can I say that is Paranormal? No. But I’d love to hear your thoughts on it.

After the ghost box session we ventured out into the woods but we didn’t receive anything out of the ordinary.

The temperature began to drop and it was absolutely freezing! We’d been out for a good 3 hours or so and we decided to wrap up the investigation and head home!

I hope you’ve enjoyed the blog and the video, It’s a little different to what I normally do but I must admit I really did enjoy filming and being able to actually showcase our evidence as well as write about it in an analysis!

There will be lots more like this to come from myself and James in the coming months….

Until next time,

Happy Hunting!
